Only Play Long Term Games
Over time I’ve learned that pretty much nothing short-term is worth it. If I look back at everything I’ve done that’s had an impact on my life positively it’s come from a form of compounding investment. That can be an investment of time, money, skill, practice
All things & all returns in life come from long-term returns. Everything worth having comes from compound interest due to the time invested in it.
I find this to be a really simple decision-making framework for life. This makes it very clear
Do NOT play short-term games.
Things that have a quick payoff generally aren’t worth it. This principle may not always apply to everything. (Nothing ever does.) However, when you walk into every situation thinking of the long term- you generally make better decisions.
If you don’t see yourself being friends with someone for the long term- leave. Don’t waste your time or theirs.
If you won’t do business with someone for the long term- don’t do it now.
If you wouldn’t do the thing you’re about to do consistently for 5-10 years. Then don’t do it now.
You make healthier relationships, create better habits, optimize for better things.
